In response to COVID-19, the physical building is closed, but the ministries of Grace are still happening! We invite you to join Grace for online worship at 9:45am Sunday mornings along with many other “virtual” gatherings throughout the week. Please explore the website, visit the Grace Facebook page, or contact the office for more information. Find additional info on Staying Connected here.
For more information about any of these ministries, please contact the Church Office.
Intercessory Prayer Group
This group meets on Wednesday mornings 9:30-10:30am in the Prayer Room, to pray for those who are ill, injured, grieving, celebrating or otherwise in need of special prayers. All are welcome.
Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry
This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays, 10-3 in the Grace UMC Fellowship hall to make prayer quilts for members and friends of the Grace congregation who are facing illnesses. Quilts are decorated with strings that are tied in knots as people pray over the quilt in the church lobby on Sunday mornings.
In addition to prayer quilts, this group does sewing projects for the community such as making large tote bags and baby quilts for SERVE. The group recently finished up a project where they made colorful (mostly patriotic) pillowcases for Air Force Academy cadets from VA, MD and DC. They also host occasional workshops to learn new techniques; the pillowcase project is one example. Next is a “stack-and-whack” workshop in April to learn a fun way to make blocks which look like kaleidoscopes. For more info, please contact the Church Office at 703-361-7800.
Grace Knitting Group
This group meets twice a month, second and fourth Thursdays 1:00-3:00 pm in the Prayer Room. The group project is baby blankets for Prince William Hospital and winter hats for the homeless. Members are also welcome to work on their own projects. Knitting instruction is available from group leaders during the meetings. Needle-workers are welcome also.
Chicken Soup Ministry
This ministry provides meals to the Grace family in response to births, illnesses, hospitalization or upon the death of a loved one. Contact the church office if you have need of meals, or if you would like to volunteer to provide meals to folks in your neighborhood.
Parish Nursing Ministries
Grace’s Parish Nursing Ministries is a Registered Nurse-led care team that ministers to the Grace family through Christ’s healing compassion. The Parish Nurses work with the pastoral leadership and other groups within the Nurture Committee.
This team contacts families who have lost a loved one and offers support through visits and delivering of bereavement books. Funeral receptions are also organized as needed.
Special Events Kitchen Helpers/Bakers
This team helps provide food – most often baked goods and finger foods – and/or kitchen assistance for funeral receptions, special dinners, receptions and other events held at Grace.
