Small Groups

Our Adult Ministries Brochure has more specific information about the current topics in these Groups and Studies.  You can also contact the Church Office for more details.

A New Thing

This small group starts 10:43 am in Room 14. The focus (growing in your faith) stays the same each week but the presentation (discussion, mission, fellowship) is different each week.

  • Week 1: We connect by asking questions about a scripture  we read together.
  • Week 2: We read/listen to a 20 mins article/presentation and then discuss for 20 mins.
  • Week 3: We use our gifts for others through mission projects. All ages and abilities welcome!
  • Week 4: We discuss the scripture/sermon heard that morning and put it into our lives.
  • Week 5: We get together for fellowship. All ages welcome.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

This Study has been a staple at Grace for many years.  Led by Pastor Rudy, the multi-age class meets at 10:30 am on Wednesdays in the Fellowship Hall from September through mid-May and is open to everyone – regardless of one’s experience with the Bible.  The class format is a mixture of lecture, reflections from leading pastors on DVD and discussion.  Topics change throughout the year.

Men’s Bible Studies

Our Men’s Bible Study has been so popular that we now have two groups!  One group meets on Wednesdays at 7:15 pm in the Prayer Room, and the other group meets on Thursdays at 7:15 pm in Resorce Room on the upper level.  These multi-age groups meet weekly throughout the year.  In addition to in-depth study, the men sing, pray, and share their joys and concerns with Christian care and support.

Caton Merchant Bible Study

This study is offered each Wednesday at 1:45 pm in the Activity Room at Caton Merchant House on Sudley Road.  Pastor Rudy leads the study, which focuses on the upcoming sermon text for the next Sunday.  All are welcome to join the residents (many of whom are connected to Grace) for this informal time of spirited fellowship.

Disciple Studies

Disciple Bible Study is a very high-quality curriculum for groups to use to study Scripture deeply, using the resources of some of the very best scholars and theologians through weekly video clips and daily Bible readings.  These 32-week, long-term studies typically meet throughout the school year.  Most classes begin in September, but when there’s enough interest we often start a group in January as well.  If you would be interested in helping to lead or participating in a Disciple Bible Study group, please contact Darlene Runaldue, Director of Program and Adult Ministries.

Women’s Small Groups

Grace’s Women’s Small Groups—Gleaners, Serendipity and Luna— meet for support, education, fun and service for women of all ages. The groups meet monthly at the church or in members’ homes, and they are always glad to welcome newcomers.

  • Gleaners Group meets on the second Tuesday at 10:00 am in the Narthex
  • Serendipity Group meets on the second Tuesday at 9:30 am in Room 202
  • Luna Group meets on the third Thursdays at 6:15 pm in member homes or restaurants

The Grace Women’s Groups also hosts a variety of activities for all women throughout the year.  Recent activities have included a Ladies’ Game Night, a Quilting Workshop, a Ladies’ Spring Tea and a Soup Luncheon.  In the fall the Groups host a Women’s Weekend Retreat to get out of town and spend time growing in faith together in a beautiful setting! Registration information is available each year in the early fall. Fall Retreat Reg Form

United Methodist Men

Grace’s United Methodist Men (UMM) work to support men’s spiritual growth and service to others. The UMM are faithful mission workers around the church and in the community, making a difference for Christ in all that they do.

The UMM sponsor our Men’s Bible Studies and in the spring and fall, the UMM head out for short retreats—with golf and historical study opportunities in addition to spiritual growth goals. The UMM also participates in the Virginia Conference UMM Retreat each fall, joining together with hundreds of men from around the state for prayer, worship and study together.
